Re: Dragon Captions Resource Pack OMOD
Well, that might be a problem now. The holidays have ended and I had to go back to work... I'll see what I can, but no promises.

That's all just supposition on my part though. Player spells should be governed by the SpellList tab as found in the CS under the NPC "Player" so none of the Necromancy spells should actually be available to the player from the game-start if ONLY the DCRP ESM is being used. Now if an ESP dependent on the ESM were to add them that's another matter, but with just the DCRP ESM, these spells should never be available from the start of the game even though they are tagged as "PC Start Spells". Only two spells actually appear in the "Player" NPC SpellList tab, neither of which are tagged as "PC Start Spells" (and both of which I always have when I start a new character) - I would suggest that this tick-box is in fact obsolete in the CS and ignored by the game anyway.

Re: Dragon Captions Resource Pack OMOD
that is always a possiblity vor... i know that the spells you get, depend on the magic skills you take as major skills... if you take restoration, u get another healing spell... conjuration, turn undead, and something else...
just all depends on what you take, so it could be very possible that option is obsolete...
intersting thought either way

Re: Dragon Captions Resource Pack OMOD
The game certainly seems to ignore it, since I just tested with a new character, giving her the Mage Class, she gained a number of new spells. I noted down the first four of them and checked in the CS, one of them (Flare) is not ticked "PC Start Spell" but the other three were. I then tested with the DCRP ESM active, and indeed as a Mage I begin with a large number of Necromancer-type spells in addition to the vanilla spells. So I still have no clue HOW the game determines what spells to give the player!
I would recommend unticking them all if you make another update to the ESM - doing so does remove them from a starting player's spells (but that Flare spell proves that this tick box isn't the determining factor! I don't get it).

Re: Dragon Captions Resource Pack OMOD
flare is an intersting bit, it somehow is hard coded into the game, regalrdess of class (or custom class) i seem to always get a basic fire spell (assuming its flare...)
so perhaps that the pc start spells DO work, and flare just happens to be coded in somewhere with a "player.addspell flare" somewhere, possibly... becuase i always get that basic firespell regardless...
could alwayys be another posiblity, but in the next version i will eliminate those ticks and see if that helps with the strange situation

Re: Dragon Captions Resource Pack OMOD
[s]No, the default starting spell is not Flare. Since I'm at work I cannot specify the name of the spell you do get, but it isn't Flare.[/s]
Scratch that, Flare is indeed the spell you start with, I just checked the UESPWiki on magic. Odd, I really thought it was called something like "Weak Flame" or similar. Oh well, clearly as you said, Flare is hardcoded, and thus is an anomaly to be ignored. So the PC Start Spell tick box IS used to determine what spells the player starts with, presumably you receive all spells marked as such for every magic major skill governing those spells.
EDIT no support for [s]strikethrough[/s]? Shame on you!

Re: Dragon Captions Resource Pack OMOD
that is otellinos job, if u find him, please do report it to him, i keep meaning to the strikethrough thing... this is logical... now if we could only find a way so that you get the necro spells, ONLY if you start as a necro... perhaps scirping that in, if player class = necro (if its not a default class make it in the necromancer... we should have some governce over that, since we still have rights to the dcrp) hehe if player.class necro == 1 addspell. "necro spell 1" ect... end if something like that, and uncheck them, so that you can only get the necro spells IF you chose to be a necromancer but these are just thoughts...

Re: Dragon Captions Resource Pack OMOD
That would be the simplest way, using a script. If you wanted to do it the Beth way you'd need a new Skill "Necromancy" and those spells would need to be allocated to this new skill. Too much effort to attempt that, so scripting is wise

Re: Dragon Captions Resource Pack OMOD
agian, woulda been nice for beth to add such things in themselves but... since they didnt, i think again the script would work nicely... remind me to add that to an ever long and increasing list of projects
