Post Morrowind
This seems as good a place as any to put this. I have installed Morrowind but do not remember the order that tgat Tribunal and Bloodmoon should be installed. Which one goesfirst. I remeber that installing the incorrectly causes problems.

This is going to be interesting. Morrowind was the first game I was able to play after becoming vision impaired but I had played it a lot and was very familiar with it. It has been a long time since I played. I remember it pretty well but not all the little dialogue. :) I do miss the voice acting.

Post Re: Morrowind
Tribunal was the first larger mod and Bloodmoon the last one.

You might also want to try MGE, because this makes immersion a lot better, at least graphically.
In fact you get an upgrade from DirectX7- to DirectX9-graphics from this utility. MSE is good too, the script extender.
You will find this probably on PES or the Nexus as Wrye Bash has closed his own site and transferred his stuff to the above two.
There are a lot more good mods for it, quests, rendering/textures/models, etc.

I haven't played it for a long time though. I had some corruptions in my save, which gave me the problem of not being able to save the game in a normal way. Starting up Morrowind causes also a delay of 25 min. in which it tries to fix some things, (something about re-indexing quests) and only then I can play.
Moved to a new rig some time ago and only installed Oblivion on it.

But I still know a few things about Morrowind, so feel free to ask.

Post Re: Morrowind
Thank you, Kosh. Tribunal then Bloodmoon. I will check out your suggestionsd. Texture, graphics changes as long as they don't clean up the ash laden atmosphere. The whole point is that Morrowind is being messed up by the volcanic action. I don't like uber mods that try to fix everything. One person's poison is another person's feast. Something that adds people, I played Morrowind Alive and enjoyed it. Got companions, really bad enemies and thos trades with the whatever that animal was. I am tired and not thinking too well. Maybe a few new quest mods. See if I I can get a house mod near Balmor. Nowena mentioned one and I used the Apartment mod that puts a room above gauius (?) room. Handy but boring. I also liked the mod that wxpands the slave quest but I had a couple of glitches, don't know if I had a corrupted copy or if there was a problem with the mod.

Playing as Nord. I never played a Nord in either Morrowind or Oblivion and plan to start Skyrim as a Nord. Answered the questions and came up as a spellsword, birth sign The Warrior.

Question technical: I have Windows7 on a Hewlett Packard. The tilde key for the console is disabled. In Oblivion there is a work around that does anyone know if the same holds true for Morrowind and if so what is it?

I never finished Tribunal didn't really grab me just like because of DB, they make rich with their outfits. :D Will probably join the Mage and Fighters guilds but the thieves this time around. Looking mainly for new way to play and new things to do. Armor and fancy equipment doesn't interest me much. Cooking, craft mods are good. Love CraftyBits for Oblivion. I like mods that give you choices. Don't suppose anyone ever fixed the bad pathing in Morrowind. Any new monsters or enemies?

.

Post Re: Morrowind
OK. First things first, I think. I have to run some errands with my brother in about 30 minutes, so I won't be able to link stuff until I get back.

First, if you've downloaded that Sounds and Graphics overhaul I told you about, MGE and MCP (the one that fixes the errors) will be included, I believe. Definitely install both. MGE now includes the script extender so you don't need to add the standalone version of that. For MGE, I printed out the directions for installation and followed them very closely and never had a problem.

Also, I highly recommend Wrye Mash if you can snag it from PES (Planet Elder Scrolls) or Nexus. It is the best tool to do the work that OBMM does on Oblivion - sort and change load orders so you get your game going well. A good help file - easy to read - comes with the download, so you don't need to worry about his site being down.

Yes. The order of installation: Morrowind, Tribunal, then Bloodmoon, then MCP. If you are using the GOTY edition, you don't need to worry about the official patches for each (those aren't MCP). If not, you should add the respective patches right after the esm's of those.

I won't go into the various retextures since I think you're using the overhaul and it explains them quite well, I've heard, and gives you choices of what you want to use. Only thing to consider is that if you have Wyre Mash loaded, you can add the retextures as Replacers and not take up a slot for other mods. (Also, the Replacers added through Wyre Mash are easy to unload if you decide you want to change any later.)

Now, the good stuff.

First, my favorite mod of all is NOM 3.03. : http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/V ... il&id=8707

Download all patches. Taddeus hasn't actually updated for awhile and each patch fixes some problems or adds new features. He's promised to make an actual update sometime in the future, but he was sidetracked re-texturing all the rocks in the game. (On the Rocks)

Also, make sure you add the Water Level Fix. Not required, but it allows you to use your bedroll in areas that are lower than the normal landscape: http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/V ... il&id=8675

Also, if you intend to add Tamriel Rebuilt - which I highly recommend, it adds as much landmass to the game as Bethesda did - you will want to add the TR - NOM patch to make sure all NOM features are in the new landmasses, too. http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/V ... il&id=5827

Speaking of Tamriel Rebuilt: http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/V ... il&id=7040
This download is for Map 2, but it has the esp for the latest version of Map 1 with it and this is the Map 1 you actually want to use.

For houses: I'm currently in love with this one: http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/V ... il&id=9163 Sgileach Manor. Has everything you could want in a house. hehe. Located just north of Balmora across the river - a bridge has been added to help.

You might also want to look up and snag "sris alchemy", though. Adds a few new ingredients to your potion making and a great new book for your character to read to make the ingredients. (And, they are supported by this house and NOM.)

Oops. Got to run. I'll leave you with this link for the Siltstriders (ride em real time) mod: http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/V ... il&id=9122 You won't be sorry for having this one, but you may spend a lot more time traveling. hehe.

I'll add quests and links and stuff when I get back from my errands. In the meantime, check Beth or PES for The Sable Dragon (a great inn close to Hla Oad, just west of Seyda Neen and loads of quests for early levels) and the LGNPC series. I recommend all but Pax Redoran. That one is in the shop for refixing - unless you are going the way of Great House Redoran. You may have to google for the download website for those, or check the Beth forum.

Be back soon.

Post Re: Morrowind
Thank you very much, Nowena, I have Game of the Year. I install things slowly and test before going on to the next. There isn't any rush.

Are here any game tweaks besides whatever is included in an overhaul.? I will also get over to the Beth forum. Still resting my yes. I took a short look and can see the dialogue a little better. A little more rest and I think it will be fine. Too much rest is bad but over straining them is bad too. Igm tesm craftm gardebubg nids> No rush on those I will add them later if there are any. I may play around with making a cave house. Did one long ago but it is gone and so is my Seyda Neen safe house. I do wish the NPCs moved around more. That was one real improvement in Oblivion and I understand Skyrim is even better.

Post Re: Morrowind
Oh, yes. Lots of tweaks. I recommend checking PES and checking the drop down category menu. There is a whole section for various tweaks. I can't think right now of any that I use, but if you want to ask me about any I will be happy to give you my experiences and/or what I've heard.

Oh. One I do use is: Antares Big Mod: http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/V ... il&id=5892

This one is fantastic. Gives you the ability to sell the spells you've learned (teach them to others) and the various skills also, if you chat with a fellow guild member who is lower than you in that skill. Also allows you to promote, demote, and kick NPC's out of any guild you are high enough in or send lesser guild members on search and retrieve missions. Loads of fun.

MCA - Morrowind Comes Alive, is up to version 6 now, I believe. http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/V ... ail&id=563
There are some patches and additions on that page as well. This may be what you're looking for.

Also, Animated Morrowind: http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/V ... il&id=8118
is one I use and have a lot of fun with. It has a volume 2 and an expanded addon as well. This gives you drummers, troubadours (who actually play), fisherman on the docks, etc.
http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/V ... il&id=8937
and, http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/V ... il&id=8896
(the last may have some problems, so be careful if you decide to load it and check it out before it's saved in your game.)

Another evil plan to distract you from the main quest is Morrowind Crafting: http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/V ... il&id=4077
Apparently, several other modders have made additions to this as well, so I recommend putting "Crafting" in the Morrowind Mods search box of PES and getting a full list. This one will give your character a LOT more non-fighting skills, such as furniture making, soul gem crafting, smithing, and on and on. If you're interested, I highly recommend downloading the pdf instruction file, too.

As for companions, there are loads (you can see them all by dropping down the category menu in PES and selecting Companions. I recommend Julan, the Ashlander for a lot of fun and a companion that will actually seem like a separate being ingame (he has several interesting quests, too). You may need to search for him on Nexus, cause I don't see him on PES.

Another that I think you'd enjoy is Jasmine: http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/V ... il&id=6855
She also has some quests that you can join her on.

There are also companion mods for just about every animal in Morrowind and a few that probably shouldn't be there ( :) zebras, dragons, etc. :) ) Just scroll through the category section, but check for the upload or updated dates, most recent are probably the better companion mods. These two are probably my favorites, though, as they will react to what you're doing, what they're doing, and the various people you meet and vanilla quests you're working on.

Planet Elder Scrolls probably has the most mods for Morrowind, I think. Also, their admins will sometimes comment on certain mods to warn you if there is problems, or if there is something special about them, or if there is a requirement that wasn't mentioned in the description and is necessary. I don't go to Nexus much as I have a serious vision/headache problem with all the video ads they include nowadays, but they have quite a few Morrowind mods you may be interested in, too. One of the ones I will/did go there to snag was Ascadian Rose Cottage, which is probably THE most beautiful house mod I've ever seen. Originally by Korana, it was added to by Gaius in order to give it compatibility with NOM and The Bathing Mod.

Oh, almost forgot another favorite mod, The Bathing Mod: http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/V ... il&id=8304
This one adds public bath houses and provides the need to bathe regularly. Also gives extra perks when you do - depending on where you take your bath. (hint: Telvanni bath houses and Mournhold Public Bath give the best perks.)

Post Re: Morrowind
Oops! One very important caution I've forgotten to give you and I see Kosh forgot as well.

Since you're using Windows 7, DO NOT - repeat, NOT - allow Morrowind to be loaded into the Program Files folder, which it will want to go in. This can cause a lot of headaches when you try to load mods as the operating system doesn't think they are appropriate (viruses or something). Make a new folder in the C:\ root area, called Games or something. Then, install Morrowind there. Afterwards, make sure you give yourself administrator functions to it just to be on the safe side. Most of the problems and errors I've heard about came because the user let it load to Program Files. (This is the same caution needed for Oblivion, by the way, and most likely will be important to Skyrim since Windows Vista and Windows 7 are not completely friendly to mods.

C:\Games\Morrowind

example above.

OOps, I did load to program files 86, I will move itout. Maybe that is why I have had a couple of problems including one CTD.
I will also tell OldCoot as he installed but can't play Morrowind.

Your list above is wonderful. This should keep me busy for the next five months or years. :D I did use an early version of Morrowind Alive and liked it very much.

I have a little back story for my character posted up on BSS if anyone is interested Ican give a direct link it is of course open to public view. I like to flesh out my character. Why is she here, who is she, what type of personality does she have? Those things.

I hope I can keep track of what I posthere and what I post on BSS. Forgive me if I end up repeating myself, senior moment Iguess. :( :?

Don't worry about the senior moments. I'm told I repeat myself a bit, too, and have been doing so for the last 30 years. (At least my brother tells me that.)

I did forget one rather important mod that I was reminded of just now when I checked Fliggerty's Top 100 thread on Beth. That is GCD, or Galsaih's Character Development. It removes the vanilla leveling of Morrowind and allows you to increase skills and levels in normal play.

http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/V ... il&id=2030

Thought I should add that one.

Another thought just hit me. If you wanted to run a journal here of your character and how she does, I for one would really enjoy reading it.

Post Re: Morrowind
:D I may do that. "Jarla's Adventures in Morrowind" At least I know I will have one appreciative audience. I had forgotten about the storms in Morrowind. It was either a very soggy land or a very dry one depending on where you were. They did the peoples reactions to the dust storms well in Morrowind. I found Oblivion a bit disapponting in that people ignored theweather I hope Skyrim is more like Morrowind in that aspect.

1) Install Morrowind to folder in root directory. C:/games/TES/Morrowind
2) Get unofficial patch. I have Game of the year.
3) Sounds and Graphics overhaul.
4) Some tweaks
5) Quests
6) Companions
7) Check out whatelse I might want including crafting.
8) Find time play. :D
9) Wrye Mash (must do that right away.)
10) Forgot what ten was

Thank you so much, Nowena.
