You may have a favorite phrase or one you have wondered about. Share them with us, ask about them.

One I have on my mind is: "my glass is half full" or My glass is half empty". This is usually used to differentiate between pessimists and optimists or to indicate how you feel about something. One person looks at a glass that is half full of a beverage and says "Ah, good my glass is half full". Another looks at a half full glass and say 'Alas, my glass is half empty'. The first is an optimist who looks on the bright side, the second is a pesimistic who can only see things darkly, what they lack rather than what wonderful things they do have.

Over the years I have collected a zillion of these but am always looking for new ones.

Crab mentality.

It's a filipino thing hehe, crab mentality is just a name for the entire thing. Basically, it talks about how you have your typical crabs trapped in a bucket, but why are they trapped? The bucket is open... They are trapped because of their own foolish selfishness, they could very easily help each other out, but instead they choose to bring you down, essentially killing you and everyone else in the bucket. They do not care of the bigger problem they face, all they care about is putting damage to you due to their short sightedness.

In real life, this is like someone or multiple people who do not care about the bigger picture, all he/she/they wants to do is fight, and make sure to bring everyone else down, and does not care either way if it will bring him/herself down, it does not matter if everyone has a gun pointed to their head and about to die in a few seconds, they still choose to fight...

Thank you, Ronin. Crab mentality. I like that. Two short words that contain a lot of meaning.

And maybe because crabs are bottom feeders. Disgusting, and quite tasty

One of my grandmother's favorites: The goose is hanging high.

Means things are coming along great. The goose (dinner) is hanging high enough that no varmints will get it and we can expect a good dinner to come.
