In July, in Fort Bragg, California, they used to have a salmon barbecue that was delicious. And, the town shot fireworks out into the bay. We'd all sit on the bluffs to watch. It was beautiful.

It must have been a great sight. In Alaska someone gave us a salmon. I didn't know how big they were. We froze it and it lasted us a long time. Elaine and I didn't get to Fort Bragg. We only spent a couple of days in San Francisco.

I lived there several years when I first went to California. Fort Bragg had a large salmon fishing fleet in those days. Don't know whether it is still that big or not anymore. But, we had lots of friends and business associates who fished and we enjoyed salmon, tuna, bottom fish, crabs, and abalone much of the time. I learned several recipes for all of them, but I think I liked the fisherman's barbecue better than anything I could fix. It was held down on the docks every year to raise money to support their association.

Not surprised you didn't get up there. It was a 4 hour drive north of San Francisco and the road was narrow and winding at least half the way. In the summer, it was also rather foggy.

Post Re: Real Life Rambles No. 2
I am getting very frustrated. All my kitchen towels have disappeared. I brought back a suitcase full of white flour sack towels from Karin's and now I can't find any of them. Mark said he used a couple of as rags. These towels are very hard to find. When I was able to do arts and crafts I used them a they are great to paint on. Mark gets carried away with rearranging things and doesn't understand that I need to know where things are very specifically. Now I can't find a roll of heay duty paper towerls that were in the kitchen. hE WANTS TO DO THINGS HIS WAY AND HOW HE WOULD LIKE IT INSTEAD OF ASKING ME WHAT i WOULD LIKE. i NEED HIS HELP BUT AM GETTING ANNOYED. aN ANNOYED nAKIA IS NOT A GOOD nAKIA.

Good point. What I do when things get hidden around here is to ask the person I suspect of moving/hiding them to help me look for them. If I look "worried" enough, they get the hint and either find them for me, or try not to make them disappear anymore. Also establishes that certain features of change are not open for debate.

May I offer you a nice, relaxing cup of coffee or tea?

Thanks for the tea I am drinking it right now. Mark is so sweet but he doesn't understand about my eyes. He keeps thinking that if I get new glasses that will improve things. It would help with the computer. Won't help with reading or even distance vision. I will get new glasses for the computer but since I have to have separate glasses for distance, reading and computer you are talking about a lot of money. I can use a magnifier to help with reading which is cheaper. The towels he keeps saying he will get me towels and again doesn't understand that I want a certain type of towel. After the floors are done we will arrange furniture. I have a feeling I will need to have a very worried look as he wants to do some arranging that I don't think I want.

I don't watch Utube videos very well. I think it's because my browser is pretty old. In any case, I love to honor Robert Burns. He was my favorite Scottish writer when I was in school. Not sure why I started reading him, but his poetry, especially, seemed to fit my moods in those days.

As far as Mark goes, perhaps it's time (before you accidently blow up in front of him) to tell him how sweet he is (start with that), but he is far too young yet to understand how an older body prefers the feel of special towels. Or, something like that. Pulling out the old woman card does make us uncomfortable, but I know of few guys that can resist it. I think it makes them feel like they are accidently abusing their mothers. (Of course, a lot depends on how they felt about their mothers. :) )

And, as for reading: Since the glasses are going to cost so much, may I suggest one of the e-books? My eyes are pretty bad, too, and I love the ability to increase the size of the font when I'm having trouble. You can also get an app that goes on your computer for the same ability but less portability.

Thanks, Nowena, good advice. As for the eyes, I do have an app for ebooks on the computer. I would like something independent from the computer. So I can move to another room, get comfy in a chair and read. Not sure what to get. these kindles and trinbles or what ever confuse me. What is for what? Having been a speedd reader it is frustrating to plod along to read. I just have to learn to live with it.

hehe. Once you get used to the ebook, you can speed read as fast as your finger moves - the finger that changes the page. My suggestion is to go to a store and look them over and see which one is the most comfortable to you. I tried Ipad first, but I couldn't figure out how to make it work. Too many finger commands that Apple people are used to, but us PC users can get confused with. Then, I looked at Kindle. It was nice, but a little small and - at the time - didn't enlarge the font as much as I wanted. So, I looked at the Nook (Barnes and Noble). Loved that one. Even more, I loved the way I could walk into the store anytime I had a problem and could find someone there who was quite willing and able to help me - especially with the updates. (They've done all of them for me in the store while I waited and read magazines.)
