 Kvatch Aftermath Backround
Introduction.
Kvatch is being attacked as you arrive, the city is half destroyed already and the daedra are busy trying to wipe out the rest of the town. Your arrival swings the battle, traps the remaining daedra in the town, were they go in to hiding in the passageways and hidden places around the town, waiting for an opportunity to attack again.
The ghostly goings on and other clues warn the town that the danger has not passed and through a series of quests, you under cover the true extent of the danger to kvatch from outside forces such as bandits. Little knowing your defensive measures will end up being used to finally defeat the daedra that remain in the city after you closed the oblivion gate and in the process restore the towns sense of pride in it self.
Background story.
The citizens of kvatch have suffered greatly, you enter the story as a lone warrior and end up saving the city. We will pick up the story from that point and cover details I found some lore fans seem to ignore because beth did not write it down for them. What follows may be common sense to some of you, forgive me if I say what should have been clear to everybody with half a brain. This explains why things are the way they are and what is going on that you might have missed. Not all clues are presented in large neon lights smile.gif
Every citizen in kvatch lost somebody, fathers had to take their own kids heads off of the spikes the daedra placed them on. Wifes had to gather up their husbands body parts and arrange for them to be buried.
They have no home, no familiar comforting surroundings to retreat too, just a tent and a lot of people suffering the same sort of pain. The sense of depression, the futility of it all, the search vulnerability they feel overwhelms them.
Then a local fool shouts, lets rebuild the arena, and gets lynched because he is an idiot and the town is in no mood for more blood sports after the recent events
Side Note:
The arena in kvatch aftermath did exist but was burnt down, thus satisfying the game lore and realisium when its not rebuilt again after the attack. I think this is the most realistic interpretation of the game lore since it includes the reality of the situation and not a flight of fancy most game lore fans adopt.
End of Side Note:
The citizens are depressed, utterly defeated, fearful, they need roof over their heads, security, a feeling of normality to return to the town and they need to rebuild their lives.
Another citizen shouts, lets rebuild kvatch exactly as it was before the attack. A mob quickly puts him straight, Giles the baker is dead, why should we rebuild his shop if he is not around to use it. Bob the blacksmiths head is on the pike over there, what use would he have with a blacksmith shop now ? The cities public buildings, once grand and well known land marks of the town all took money to build that the city no longer has. Its impossible to rebuild kvatch exactly as it was.
Side Note:
No city through out history has ever been rebuilt the same way after being destroyed. Aside from everything mentioned above, theres the obselete buildings, do they get rebuilt too ? Even buildings that where not obselete seldomly get rebuilt...9/11 anybody ?
End of Side Note:
The citizen then agrees after seeing the sense in the others argument. They then turn to solving their current needs which is housing.
A slum develops to the side of the church, near the old slum area. The citizens are once again dry and warm.
The citizens then turn to the creation of jobs, the first to appear are the shops and Inns with more shops appearing later as citizens become richer.
Heavy industry such as mines and warehouses appear, the town starts to look like a major city once again and weekend markets become a favourite day for the depressed citizens.
But the cloud is still hanging over the city, the city was once before like this and daedra just walked in and smashed it all in front of their eyes. How can they ever feel safe again.
The sense of futility remains, citizens enjoy the moment for tomorrow it may all be gone.
Then the Elder Council grants the town some Knights, the Citizen realise this is different, this is new, this might change things. Hope starts to kindle in the deepest darkest areas of the citizens minds.
The daedra open more Oblivion gates around Cyrodiil, the Surviving Kvatch Daedra get re-enforcements. Then they launch their second attack from their hiding places within kvatch. Appearing within the city walls much to the dismay of the citizens.
Depression takes hold, citizens run for the old camp, once again expecting the worst. Others hide in the church in what seems to becoming a familiar routine for them.
But this time the guards are ready, they expected an bandit attack and got a daedra attack, to them an enemy is an enemy and needs to be defeated. So they hold the line whilst the citizens escape but all they can do is hold their own. Help is needed if they are to win this battle.
The Fighters Guild members join the battle, replacing the loses most the guard, helping to hold the line for a few minutes longer.
Then the Knights of Kvatch charge out of their barracks in to the town centre, via the moat bridge. Crushing the daedra in the initial charge and give the advantage to the guards.
The guards hearts fill with hope, the citizens can smell the sweet sent of revenge and some join the fight. The Knights split up to secure other parts of the town and aid the guards in those locations.
The count exists the castle to see the battle unfolding, his guards fight bravely, the knights by their side and the citizens now filled with a lust for daedra blood run back and forth attacking with anything they can find and use as a weapon.
The daedra stand no chance, they are utterly defeated. The attack whilst stronger than the first should have succeeded, especially against a demoralised enemy but the brave stand by the Guards rallied the town, even if it would ultimately be futile without help. The town came together in that moment, but realised the battle was lost. Still they battled on.
Then the Knights swept all before them aside, like the heroes of old, undefeatable, unstoppable, they swung the battle before the eyes of the whole town.
The next morning the town folk had filled their plate with portions of Daedra blood and sweet revenge. Their appetite satisfied. The secure feeling they lacked now filled by the bravey of the guards in the second battle and the presence of the Knights of Kvatch in the town.
The city was once again safe, the citizens felt they could take on any enemy and win. Normality had returned for the first time since the town was destroyed.
New Guilds appear in the town, strange nuns, new businesses, the riches that once flooded in to kvatch, once again fill the counts treasury.
The Counts wisdom becomes known across Cyrodiil, other cities start to follow his lead, opening businesses and warehouses and promoting trade so they too might get their share of the profits.
The Elder Council notice the Count of Kvatch but that's something for the future.
So you see, just as the name of the mod suggests, Kvatch Aftermath deals with the after effects of the attack in a fairly realistic manner, where realisium does not get in the way of the fun factor.
