Post Nature of the Daedric Princes
An idea for a book for the Arcane University Archives

Nature of the Daedric Princes
Thesis by Udarian Ishtare

Editorial Note: This tome is a copy of notes from former council mage Udarian, the nine have deemed his works blasphemous and misleading, he has been expelled from the guild and this copy is purely for archival sake therefore this should not be taken as an arcane university endorsed thesis.

The daedric princes are highly misunderstood beings, if you can even call them that. It seems to myself that these daedric princes are not actually bound by the notions of good and evil, instead they seem to be bound to different elements or aspects to the extent that they themselves are governed by the forces which they lay patron ship on. A close study can see that the daedric princes have more in common with energy rather than living beings.

For arguments sake let us take Mehrunes Dagon, he is known for his destruction and plotting against the empire, not to mention his extremely dangerous realm that is oblivion. Yet Mehrunes Dagon is more so the persona of change through the never-ending cycle of destruction and creation. It could be hypothesised that Mehrunes simply exists so that change can take Tamriel. He seems not to care how or why things change so long as they do change.

Another good example is Sanguine, Lust and pleasure seems to rule this daedric prince; he cares not for the way in which pleasure is obtained so long as it is obtained. Which then brings us to believe that Sanguine may only know lust and pleasure and, rather than being a whole persona containing many different facets, he is like a force or energy which contains only one to the very extreme.

So this, from my careful observation of daedric priests, seems to be the very nature of the daedric gods, that their nature is one of complete devotion to a single aspect.

Now as the old saying goes “Too much of one thing is not healthy”, perhaps this is why the empire considers daedra evil or bad, when the daedra themselves might not hold such concepts or even consider multifaceted personas evil. This makes myself conclude that we are the combined natures of all the daedra and to incorporate these princes in the attributing aspects of our lifestyle could lead us to better understand our own nature.
