Sample of Legend of the Twilight
Hello, my name is Railan. I used to be a guild master of the illustrious Guild of Kato. We protected the people, as it was out job and duty. But in recent times, I have found myself cast out. It all happened the day that myself, my equal, Daylando, the guild elders two sons, James and Nicholas went to slay a great fire dragon in the planes. But all plans go array some of the time, and I believe this was not even some of the time. To this day; I believe that we were set up on the mission. It was to strange for Daylando to just leave us for dead. Once Nicholas died, I saw him fall myself, but after that Daylando disappeared and was not seen again.
Either way, myself and young James were left to fend for ourselves, and if it were not for the timely arrival of Redeyes, I doubt either of us would have lived; especially seeing how Daylando never set a search party out for us. But, things did not end too badly. Redeyes took us in, at his village of Ka-Kato, were the people are extremely kind and friendly to us. James found a darling girl to court with, and I have finally found a peaceful spot, to be alone in, but still watchful. Neroth has grown to be a strong, energetic, and caring kid. Neither I nor his father could have asked for more out of him.
I still can’t believe that it has been eleven years since James disappeared. He was such a good father, and loved both his wife and child greatly. But atlas, I believe now it must be time for me to give up hope, of ever seeing my dear friend again. May sauga watch over him, and see him on his way to eternal. Neroth turns twelve in just a day or two, so it will be time for him to take the rite of passage. This will be the day that will decide his future; will he be a true hunter like his father, and grandfather, or not. I suppose only time will tell.
It was a warm spring day, I found myself wondering around my hut, built into the side of the great Sykolon tree. The door to my home swung open, and a young man appeared in the doorway. He was dressed in fur pelts. His boots showed off the claws of the great khanico bear that gave its life to make them. His sash was made of true muskrat; his leggings were made from aphatous hide. His long brown hair was tied back in braids. “Morning grandpa!” said the energetic youth as he ran from the doorway, and wrapped both of his arms around me. I just returned a warm smile to the young boy; who then released me and sat down in one of the soft chairs in the far corner of the room. “So what brings you out here today my boy?” I said as I readied two glasses of tea from the cupboard.
“Do you remember what day it is today?” he said with wide enthusiastic eyes. “Tuesday, the 16th” I replied with little emotion as I focused on the tea. “What else is today?” he asked more impatient than the first time. “Sunny?” I responded, now toying with the boy. “Very funny grandpa… surely you couldn’t have forgotten my birthday already!” he said almost with a hint of sadness in his voice. I could not allow for him to really think I forgot. I swung around and approached him first offering him the glass of tea; which he happy took from me. “Mmm you always make the best tea grandpa Railan!” he said in a warmer happier tone. “I am glad that you like it so much. It was you grandfather Nicholi’s recipe you know.” I said with a smile as I turned and walked back to the counter. “Do you ever think I will ever get to meet him? He sounds like a truly amazing man… not that you aren’t!” he said almost memorized with the image I have painted of his true grandfather. “There is always a chance my dear boy… I myself would love to see him one last time.” This last line was painstaking for me to say, having a blood-bond to the man. “Grandpa, you mentioned blood bonds once, when you mentioned grandfather; what are those?” I looked at the boy kind of strangely, as wondering why he asked but I felt I should respond. “Blood bonds are sacred bounds between two people, a bond of service. The hardest part is that it requires swearing to give your life in service of another. A pack truly sealed in blood.” Neroth just looked at me blindly and did not respond; he in turn just looked sadly at the ground.
